Dmytro Kuleba, the head of Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has identified two conditions under which sanctions imposed on Russia would be effective, according to the Ministry's website.

Responding to questions from the media regarding new sanctions against Russia and closing the ways for circumvention, Kuleba emphasized that the high effectiveness of a sanctions regime can only be achieved under two conditions.

"The first is when the coalition regularly increases sanctions pressure. The second is the need to consistently close loopholes and opportunities for bypassing sanctions. If it isn't done regularly, the country under sanctions accepts a new reality and adapts to it," the Minister noted.

Kuleba stressed that sanctions cannot fully work if allies restrict Russia's ability to circumvent sanctions but do not increase sanctions pressure on them.

"You cannot succeed only by fighting against the circumvention of sanctions. So if at some point it turns out that sanctions against Russia are not as effective as expected - today Russia is the most sanctioned country in the world - those who quietly oppose public procedures, discussions, or the imposition of new sanctions should be blamed," the Minister of Foreign Affairs added.

Sanctions against Russia

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine, Ukraine's partner countries have been putting pressure on the Kremlin through imposed sanctions.

Restrictions typically target individuals and entities in the Russian Federation, as well as trade and cooperation with other countries.

It is now known that the EU is preparing its 14th package of sanctions against Russia.

RBC-Ukraine also reported that the EU is considering imposing sanctions on Russian projects for the production of liquefied natural gas.

Additionally, the European Parliament has called on the EU to impose sanctions on Russia for disinformation and propaganda.
