Marcel Desailly says former Everton player was the best he's ever seen at heading

Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has named one Everton player as the best header of a ball he’s ever seen.

The imperious French defender played for four European teams during his career, making a name for himself during his time at Chelsea.

AC Milan, FC Nantes and Olympique Marseille were also home to the now 55-year-old during his time as a professional. Desailly also made 116 appearances for France on the international stage.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, he made 159 appearances in the Premier League, scoring six goals and registering two assists.

He was certainly no stranger to facing Everton, having faced the Toffees nine times during his time in England. His record against the Merseyside club read:

  • Five wins
  • Three draws
  • One defeat

In a recent social media clip shared byZizouRetro Football, the 55-year-old named Everton legend Duncan Ferguson as the best header of a football he’s ever seen.

It should come as no surprise that the Frenchman is certainly not the first person to laud the big Scot’s aerial prowess.

Harry Kane, only last year, broke the Everton legend’s record for the most headed goals in the top flight.

Duncan Ferguson’s heading ability is well-known amongst the Premier League elite

As previously mentioned, Ferguson’s ability in the air is well-known. Back in 2013, Martin Keown wrote in the Daily Mail: “The sheer height of the man made him so difficult to mark. And he had a leap to go with it. He really attacked the ball with venom. It’s just a shame that his career wasn’t always smooth.”

There’s something quite poetic about Ferguson’s aerial ability. Behind the brute strength, aggression and outright desire to win the ball, there was an elegance and guile underpinning his brilliant technique.

Desire and passion would get his head to the ball, but from there on, technique played a massive part in the Scot’s remarkable goalscoring feat.
