The United States has seen evidence of China attempting to influence future elections in the country, stated US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Blinken said that the US has seen evidence of China's attempts to “influence and arguably interfere” in future US elections, despite Chinese leader Xi Jinping's previous commitment not to do so.
Following a three-day visit to China, Blinken said he repeated President Joe Biden's call to Xi Jinping during their summit in San Francisco last November not to interfere in the US presidential elections in 2024. At that time, Xi Jinping promised that China would not do so.
"We have seen, generally speaking, evidence of attempts to influence and arguably interfere, and we want to make sure that that’s cut off as quickly as possible,” Blinken said.
He emphasized that any Chinese interference in US elections is totally unacceptable.
"I wanted to make sure that they heard that message again,” Blinken said.

This year's presidential election in the United States is scheduled for November, 5. The main candidates for the presidency are the incumbent President Joe Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump.
Recently, top US media organizations have called on the candidates to hold debates, as there is less and less time left until the elections, and the candidates have not yet met.
