Luke Grimes Breaks Silence on TV Dad Kevin Costner’s ‘Unfortunate’ Exit From ‘Yellowstone’

Yellowstone star Luke Grimes is opening up about Kevin Costner‘s departure from the smash hit show, but he doesn’t seem angry with his television father.

In a new interview with the Independent, Grimes, 40, seems philosophical about Costner’s exit from his iconic role as patriarch John Dutton. According to reports, Costner will not return for the upcoming second half of Yellowstone‘s Season 5 after a very public dispute with producers over his shooting schedule, which conflicted with a project called Horizon: An American Saga that he is directing, producing and stars in.

“Whatever happened there is unfortunate if it’s changed anything about how the show was going to unfold,” Grimes states. “I know he got busy with his movies that were like passion projects. At a certain point, you gotta do what you gotta do, man; you gotta do what you love.”

Grimes plays the role of John Dutton’s youngest son, Kayce Dutton, on the show, and the two actors have shared a number of pivotal scenes over the years. Costner’s character will reportedly die early in the upcoming episodes, which are slated to begin filming in May for a November release.

Yellowstone will come to an end after the new episodes air, and series creator Taylor Sheridan is reportedly working on a sequel to the show that may star Matthew McConaughey, though the superstar has yet to publicly commit.
