German train catches fire after emergency stop, two injured

Two people have been injured when a regional train near Plochingen, south of Frankfurt, in southern Germany made an emergency stop and subsequently caught fire.

The reasons for the emergency braking on Friday evening were initially unclear, but according to police reports on Saturday, human error is assumed. The overhead line was also damaged in the incident, according to reports.

The passengers affected were evacuated from the train, which was carrying around 300 people. Rescue workers treated the two injured people on site.

The temporarily completely closed railway lines to Wendlingen and Göppingen also led to further delays. The police are now investigating on suspicion of endangering rail traffic.
