22-year-old Chelsea player really needs a big performance this evening vs Aston Villa - opinion

Chelsea will be looking to put the embarrasment of the visit to Arsenal behind them with a trip to Villa Park later today.

The Blues are taking on Aston Villa, with their hopes of finishing in the European places slowly fading as the season approaches it’s climax.

Chelsea actually can boast one of their best displays of the season at this stadium so far, with them winning 3-1 in the FA Cup earlier this year.

Goalscorer that day Enzo Fernandez is not available after having surgery that has brought an early end to his season.

Also on the scoresheet that day was Nicolas Jackson, with him originally enjoying a strong return to club football after representing his nation at the African Cup of Nations.

However, the goals have dried up, and a number of big chances have fallen the 22-year-old’s way, only for them to go begging.

There is very little competition currently in the squad for a striker, however that may be about to change in the summer.

It has been reported that the Blues are considering bringing in a new man up top, with someone to score goals on a regular basis other than Cole Palmer a priority.

However, the current situation means he is in line to start every game for the forseeable future, and continue to be handed chances to prove he is a player the club can rely on going into the coming campaigns.

With a goal under his belt already this season at Villa Park, he will perhaps have confidence that he can add to his tally for the season later today.

It looks as if he will have the club’s most creative force back in the squad too, with Cole Palmer reportedly recovering from his recent illness to be able to feature again.
