'Easily': Chris Sutton predicts how many goals Newcastle United will beat Sheffield United by

Newcastle United are massive favourites heading into their game against Sheffield United.

Even though they lost to Crystal Palace in midweek and played terribly, the majority of onlookers are backing the Magpies to win on Saturday.

That is the view of Paul Merson, who has tipped Eddie Howe‘s side to triumph 4-0. That would be the perfect response to the disappointment of Wednesday, while it would also relegate Sheffield United from the Premier League.

The Blades need a miracle to survive, and it feels highly unlikely that they will get one. Their fate could be sealed this weekend, and it could be Newcastle United who send them back down to the Championship after just one season back in the top flight.

Chris Sutton predicts Newcastle United vs Sheffield United

Chris Sutton thinks that the Magpies are going to do exactly that. In his predictions for BBC Sport, he has predicted that Newcastle United will beat Sheffield United.

This comes just days after he correctly tipped Eddie Howe’s side to lose at Selhurst Park, which is exactly what happened.

It was a shame to see him get it right on Wednesday, but hopefully he is able to make it two in a row.

He thinks Newcastle will win at St James’ Park, predicting a scoreline of 3-1 to the home side.

“Sheffield United will be relegated if they lose this game but it is going to happen sooner or later even if they avoid defeat,” he wrote.

“The Blades have lacked quality in all areas but they have known they are going down for a while now, and the important thing for them is how they regroup for next season.

“Newcastle put eight goals past them at Bramall Lane in September and I am pretty sure they will cut through them pretty easily this time too. I am going to give Sheffield United a goal, but that is all they will get.”

Newcastle just need to get the job done against Sheffield United

Merson thinks it will be 4-0, and now Sutton has gone for 3-1 in favour of Newcastle United.

Howe’s side are the overwhelming favourites, but that must not lead to complacency. Teams towards the bottom division have beaten the Magpies already this season, with both Luton Town and Nottingham Forest getting wins over Newcastle United.

And there will be even more pressure on the home side to deliver after what happened in the reverse fixture. Newcastle won 8-0 at Bramall Lane, with eight different players finding the net.

One of those was Alexander Isak, who is still in with an outside chance of winning the Premier League golden boot. He is currently on 17 goals in the league, and is three behind joint-leaders Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer.
