Mikel Arteta hints 'exceptional' 22-year-old Arsenal talent could feature v Spurs tomorrow, he's so rapid

Arsenal have been preparing for a huge north London derby that could have huge ramifications with regards to their hopes for the season.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners head to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, mindful that only a win will realistically keep their Premier League title hopes alive.

Arsenal are currently top of the table, but Manchester City sit just one point behind and with a game in hand.

The Gunners are boosted by the fact they have a virtually clean bill of health with regards to their playing squad.

Only Jurrien Timber, who has been a long-term absentee, is a doubt, but Arteta has now admitted that there just might be a chance he could feature.

The 22-year-old featured for Arsenal’s Under-21s on Monday, and marked his return to action with a superb goal within eight minutes.

Timber was in a Gunners squad for the first time in eight months, a big milestone following his anterior cruciate ligament injury on the opening day of the season against Nottingham Forest.

What has Mikel Arteta said about Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber?

Football.london quotes Arteta as saying on Friday: “We’re going to have to make that decision tomorrow after a training session.

“It’s very close, I don’t know if this is going to come too soon for him, but he’s very close.”

This is great to hear. Timber is an ‘exceptional’ and ‘quick’ talent – as Jaap Stam told Charles Watts at the start of the season – and, from his early appearances, you could tell he has what it takes to impress for Arsenal.

Sadly he picked up that awful injury right at the start of the Premier League season, but now it looks like there’s a good chance he could feature before the campaign’s up.

After Arsenal’s trip to Tottenham, the Gunners are up against Bournemouth at home, Manchester United away, and Everton at the Emirates Stadium.
