'He just went': Ange Postecoglou shares what really happened that caused Destiny Udogie's season-ending injury

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a huge blow a few days ago after it was confirmed that Destiny Udogie had picked up a serious injury.

Spurs haven’t had a game in two whole weeks.

Ange Postecoglou has had all the time in the world to get his side ready for the North London Derby against Arsenal tomorrow, and his players have been hard at work.

Spurs welcomed Richarlison and Pedro Porro back from their injuries, but Udogie, who has been one of their most impressive players this season, got injured.

The Italian confirmed a few days ago that he has undergone surgery that rules him out for the remainder of this season.

Ange Postecoglou explains how Destiny Udogie suffered his injury

Tottenham signed Destiny Udogie from Udinese in the summer of 2022 and then sent him back on loan to the Italian club for a year.

The talented left-back returned to Spurs before the start of this season and immediately caught Ange Postecoglou’s eye in pre-season.

Udogie quickly became Tottenham’s first-choice left-back, and he has had a really impressive debut campaign in the Premier League.

Unfortunately for Udogie and Tottenham, his season has ended prematurely.

The 21-year-old has undergone surgery and is not expected to be back in action until Tottenham begin their pre-season preparations this summer.

Speaking about what happened to Udogie, Postecoglou revealed that it was a no-contact injury and happened while he was taking a shot in training.

The Spurs boss said, as per Football London: “It was non-contact. He just went to have a strike at goal by himself and got the injury.”

Postecoglou also said: “A disappointing one for Destiny and for ourselves as well, because he’s been a big part of our year. It was just an unfortunate incident in training.

“He’s had the operation, it’s gone well – so hopefully it gives him time to have pre-season and get back into it. So we’ll miss him.”

Postecoglou confirms who will start at left-back against Arsenal

Tottenham welcome Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend in what is a huge game for both sides.

Spurs need the win to have a chance of pipping Aston Villa to fourth in the Premier League table, while any dropped points for Arsenal will all but end their title hopes.

Udogie’s injury has come at a terrible time for Tottenham as the Italian had a good game against Bukayo Saka in the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium last summer.

That would’ve been a great battle again this weekend, but Postecoglou now has to replace Udogie.

It was either going to be Ben Davies, who is Tottenham other left-back, or Emerson Royal, who has also played in that position this season.

In his press conference yesterday, Postecoglou confirmed it will be the former.

“Ben [Davies] will start,” he said, as quoted by Football London.
