The mass rocket strike on Ukraine on April 27 had its peculiarities. In particular, the Russians used Kalibr missiles but did not attack with Shahed drones, reports the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, Illia Yevlash.
"This is one of the first attacks after a brief lull. They have been accumulating their reserves, missiles, for some time. Tonight they already used Kalibr missiles from the Black Sea waters," he said, adding that they managed to shoot down 6 out of 8 missiles of this type.
Moreover, according to the spokesman, the occupiers began to intensively attack, deploying their strategic bombers Tu-95 after the downing of Tu-22M3.
"They took a break for a while. And now they have started to launch powerful attacks again, mainly targeting our energy and critical infrastructure," Yevlash said.
Also, according to him, the enemy has been attacking quite intensively, including with the use of Kinzhals.
"This is a very powerful weapon that is difficult to intercept. We have only certain means that have proven their effectiveness against them, namely Patriot missiles can effectively counter them, but unfortunately, we lack these systems in the directions where the hits occurred," he noted.
At the same time, according to Yevlash, the enemy did not use Shahed drones during the attack.
"Yes, there were no Shaheds, as has been the case for the past few days. Why? Perhaps they have their own strategic plan, why they switched to missiles," he concluded.
Ukraine shelling
Just on April 25, Yevlash did not rule out that Russian forces might dare to launch a massive attack on Ukraine until the Armed Forces received new assistance from the US. And on April 27, the invaders carried out a new massive strike.
In total, the occupiers launched 34 missiles at Ukraine, 21 of which were successfully shot down. In particular, the invaders launched Kalibr missiles from two submarines, which rarely leave their bases.
The day before, the military reported the deployment of two submarines to the Black Sea, each carrying 8 Kalibr missiles.
