Reader’s letter: Shocking vandalism

Like most Newark residents, I was distressed to read about the vandalism at the Orchard School over the Easter break.

It touched a particular chord for me. One of the first assignments I undertook as a newly elected councillor last year was to open the garden at the school which the students had been involved in creating.

It was wonderful to meet the students and witness their excitement and pride in what they’d achieved. It was also a privileged insight into the great work that staff at the school do.

MISSING CAPTION

All vandalism is senseless, but to hit a school is particularly thoughtless. The vehicles that were damaged were due to be used for planned trips, they are also vital for transporting children with specific needs.

Money will have to be found to rent coaches and to repair/replace the damaged vehicles.

A fundraiser has been set up to help with the considerable costs involved – https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02z3kV7koZWKqjYZAw7bXWhwtQMwHhChGBz aHTeeX8apHZQQTMS273L2qhB5xgM13Wl&id=100064326474439

If any local garages or coach companies might be able to help it would be wonderful.

If you have any information about the destruction, even if it seems insignificant, please contact the police and help to bring those involved to account.
