‘Fantastic talent’: Harry Redknapp says he’d loved to manage ‘amazing’ Man City player

Harry Redknapp has named one Manchester City player he would’ve loved to have coached.

Throughout his managerial career, the 77-year-old took charge of 780 club games in total, coaching a significant number of players along the way.

Some of the more notable players he coached include the likes of Gareth Bale, Frank Lampard, Luka Modric and Jermain Defoe among many others.

Now though, Redknapp has singled out one current top-flight player as someone he would’ve relished having in one of his teams.

In a recent video shared on the ESPN UK TikTok channel, Redknapp was asked which current player he’d loved to have coached during his managerial career.

In response, the former Tottenham manager said this.

He said: “Phil Foden. He’s a fantastic talent. I love the enthusiasm he plays with, the freedom he plays with and the skill. I think he’s an amazing player.”

Having worked his way through the youth ranks at City, the 23-year-old has now gone on to make 265 senior appearances for the Manchester club in all competitions.

Across those games, the Englishman has scored 84 goals, delivered 51 assists and lifted five Premier League trophies.

His previous appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side saw Foden score two goals in their 4-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion, the first of which being his 50th in the Premier League.

These two goals took his tally to 24 in 48 games across all competitions.

Phil Foden is a key player for City

With 31 league appearances under his belt this term, the England international has made 74 carries into the final third of the pitch, the third-highest in the division.

This showcases the enthusiasm and freedom Foden plays with, as Redknapp mentioned, in terms of getting on the ball and moving up the pitch with it.

Having proved himself to be such a key player for City this season in terms of his goals and assists, it’s no surprise to us that Redknapp has said he’d loved to have coached the midfielder during his managerial career.
