The Bakhmut direction remains one of the hottest, as Russia continues its attempts to seize Chasiv Yar and amasses forces in the area of Klishchiivka, according to a spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group of Forces, Nazar Voloshyn.

Chasiv Yar

As the spokesperson explained, the enemy currently continues to exert pressure in the Bakhmut direction, particularly on the outskirts of Chasiv Yar.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces control the situation both in the city and around it. There is no presence of the enemy Russian army in the city," he said.

However, the Russian troops are attempting to seize the city, disregarding losses in equipment and personnel.

"Just in the recent assaults, the enemy did not achieve any tactical successes despite using all means. A similar situation is observed in the settlements of Bohdanivka and Ivanivske," the spokesperson added.

Russia amassing forces near Klishchiivka

The Russian military is also assaulting Andriivka and Klishchiivka in an attempt to line up the front line.

"In the area of Klishchiivka, an increase in the number of Russian units has been noticed. The most intense assaults on the Chasiv Yar direction were conducted in the area of Bilohorivka," Voloshyn added.

Russian plans

Currently, the enemy is concentrating forces to break through the defense west of Bakhmut to reach the Siverskyi Donets - Donbas canal, seize Chasiv Yar, and create conditions for advancing towards the Kramatorsk agglomeration.

Frontline situation

Russian forces are striving to maintain the pace of their advance in Ukraine. The most difficult situation remains in the Donetsk region, particularly in the Chasiv Yar area.

The enemy's fixation on this settlement, in which they spare neither manpower nor equipment, is explained by a transportation hub leading to Kostiantynivka.

Currently, the Russian troops are assaulting the city from multiple directions, aiming to fulfill the order to take the settlement by May 9. Read more details in the RBC-Ukraine story.
