Arteta shares what advice Arsene Wenger gave him for Arsenal run-in ahead of Spurs clash

Arsenal will need to be at their best in the final four games of their campaign if they are to keep themselves in with a chance of winning the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta’s side will have to hope Manchester City drop points at least once, and they will likely also have to be perfect in their run-in.

With a North London derby coming up, as well as a tough trip to face Manchester United, it will be a difficult few weeks for Arsenal, who suffered late-season collapses in both of their last two campaigns when fighting for a top four spot in 2022 and the title last year.

Arteta has done a superb job since becoming Arsenal manager, but he has not gotten Arsenal over the line when it comes to silverware since winning the FA Cup in 2020. However, he has now enlisted the help of Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger.

Mikel Arteta has spoken to Arsene Wenger about Arsenal title run-in

Speaking via The Guardian, Arteta admitted that he has spoken to his former boss about how to keep winning in the late stages of the season when the pressure is on in a title race.

“I have spoken to him a few times. There were certain topics about how they won it and the later stages,” he stated.

“He used to talk about that when I was a player. It is always there in the hard drive. For this time of the season, at the end it is about finding a way to win the game.

“And that is it. You can do it in various ways when you look at how they won the titles and how they won certain games with very very, very close margins. He always talked about that, about the fine margins. And who is going to step up on the occasion to make it happen.”

When Wenger won his first Premier League title with Arsenal in 1998, there were doubts if they could put together a run to win the league when they drew with West Ham with 12 games to go.

However, they then showed the required mentality to win the league, securing 10 straight wins, with the first four games of this run all ending 1-0, and secured the title with two games to spare.

With the pressure fully on, Wenger had gotten a tune out of his squad at the best possible moment, which Arteta did not manage to do as Arsenal collapsed in the title race last season.

However, with a near fully fit squad ahead of the final four games, and Arsenal chasing Man City rather than trying to hold onto a lead, Arteta will hope that his side can do what is required of them, before then hoping that Man City slip up in their final five games.
