On the night of April 26-27, 2024, the Ukrainian hacker group BO Team and the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine carried out a hacker attack on the Russian company JSC MTT, which is a subsidiary of PJSC MTS.

According to a security source, Ukrainian cyber specialists gained access to all of MTT's network equipment in advance.

After that, on the night of April 26-27, 2024, a powerful cyberattack was launched against all the seized devices. The purpose of the attack was to destroy their software and configuration files.

As a result of the cyberattack, MTT JSC suffered significant damage, and the company's services are still down in many regions of Russia, as complained by the company's customers. In particular, the provider has suspended operations in:

  • Moscow
  • Samara
  • St. Petersburg,
  • Khabarovsk,
  • Nizhny Novgorod,
  • Rostov on the Don,
  • Volga,
  • Ufa,
  • Kaliningrad.

To restore all the equipment, the company's specialists will have to physically connect to each device, which can take weeks given the geographical location of each device.

Ukrainian hackers, together with the DIU and the IT army, regularly attack enemy resources. Russian payment systems and other state-owned enterprises suffer at the hands of Ukrainian specialists.

Yesterday, RBC-Ukraine reported that the DIU specialists carried out a large-scale cyberattack against the resources of the ruling United Russia party.
