Lizzo was forced to address rumors a fan died after she performed a stage dive at one of her gigs.
The music star was ‘hurt’ by the unfounded rumors that circulated like wildfire online back in 2021. With the rise of TikTok as one of the most popular social media platforms, it also means baseless claims and stories that aren’t fact-checked are often seen by millions. The celebrity was forced to face the rumors her stage dive resulted in one fan dying, and Lizzo didn’t hold back.
Lizzo was ‘hurt’ over stage dive rumors
The About Damn Time singer, recorded her own clip on the video-sharing app to respond to the wild allegations.
Lizzo found it strange she had to clear her name and explain she didn’t kill a fan with a stage dive.
Lizzo said at the time: “So, I’ve seen a lot of annoying things about me on the internet, but the thing that bothers me the most is the rumor that I stage dived at a concert and killed somebody”.
The celebrity added: “Like, that rumor, it’s a lie, first of all. I’ve never stage dived in my life and b****, how, like killed somebody?
“Y’all really gon’ put that on my m**********r name? Like, I know I’m big but b****, I’m not that f*****g big”.
To demonstrate her point, she filmed herself belly flopping on her bed.
Injuries from celebrities stage-diving
After Lizzo put the rumors to bed, there have been cases of stars causing injuries from a stage dive. Post Malone jumped into a crowd once, but no one caught him.
R&B singer Miguel decided to leap over the crowd at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards Show, but it didn’t go as planned. He ended up slamming one audience member’s head into the stage with his leg, and later offered them an ice pack.
Another time, from a fan instead, at a Green Day concert, a man took a running start and leaped into the crowd – feet-first. But fellow concert-goers didn’t want to get kicked in the head, so didn’t catch him, and he ended up falling.
Then there was Brit musician Dizzie Rascal who accidentally dove onto the floor, but it seems like it was better received than Iggy Pop’s at Carnegie Hall, as he just fell to the ground.
