Manchester United fans have a lot to say about Alejandro Garnacho’s display vs Burnley

Manchester United drew 1-1 with Burnley on Saturday afternoon, after the game, fans were talking about Alejandro Garnacho.

After scoring four goals on Wednesday, it wouldn’t have been unreasonable to think that facing Burnley at home would also see a fine attacking display.

This didn’t end up the case as Manchester United put in a performance we’ve seen far too many times this season.

Despite creating a few decent chances there was no structure to the play or dominating the game as Burnley looked by far the better side in the 1-1 draw.

Erik ten Hag‘s side were toothless in front of goal, with Alejandro Garnacho missing a few chances, just like he did on Wednesday.

After this, fans have been having their say…

Manchester United fans are talking about Alejandro Garnacho

For as much as the fanbase loves Garnacho, his recent displays in front of goal have left much to be desired, with fans reacting on X.

“Garnacho, at some point, has to become more clinical in front of goal”, one fan wrote.

Another agreed, admitting Garnacho has a long way to go: “Garnacho needs to learn to get his head up more in the final 3rd, so many times he ignores runs from others. Needs a lot of work.”

“Garnacho has been off it today massively, his touch and decision-making are all over the place”, a third commented.

A fourth fan had a message of support while admitting the flaws in the 19-year-old’s game: “Garnacho is extremely raw, his finishing isn’t great, his decisions in the final 3rd is sloppy, but he’s still very young, he will get good.”

A fifth also commented: “He’s very raw, has a lot of ability but atm he’s got a lot to improve on. Which is understandable given his age.”

While we can look at his performances though, there is a factor affecting them and this fan hit the nail on the head: “You can clearly tell [Kobbie] Mainoo and Garnacho are fatigued from being overplayed.”

How did Garnacho play against Burnley?

Garnacho, despite missing a couple of really good chances, also created three chances of his own in the game.

This just highlights his inconsistency as he can do something brilliant in one moment and something poor in another.

He had 0.56 expected goals against Burnley and while only missing one big chance according to FotMob, he missed at least three decent chances that you’d expect a top forward to convert.

It’s important to remember that Garnacho is still young, and only a starter because of how bad the senior players are.

He’s been one of our best this season but needs the burden taken off him as he looks exhausted and still needs to improve in the final third.
