'Special talent': Eddie Howe blown away by one Newcastle player after beating Sheffield United

Newcastle United complete a routine win over Sheffield United today as they hammered the visitors 5-1 at St James’ Park.

Despite going 1-0 down, the Magpies never looked like being in major trouble once Alexander Isak got the equaliser and went on to comfortably beat Chris Wilder’s mean.

The result means Newcastle have beaten the Blades 13-1 over the course of the season and condemns the away side to the Championship in the process.

Of course, Eddie Howe will worry little about the opposition after seeing his team do the business.

Ahead of another busy summer, Howe is preparing for new arrivals but is also aware that some of his top stars are wanted elsewhere.

One of those players wanted by other clubs is midfielder, Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian got his goal today but has been linked with a move to Arsenal recently.

And speaking to the BBC after the game, Howe admitted the club needs to show the Brazilian what it means and lauded him as a ‘special’ player.

“He [Bruno Guimaraes] is very much part of my plans [for next season]. We have to showcase what we can offer him as a football club and hope that’s enough to keep him. Bruno is a special talent and scored a big goal today. Hopefully he stays with us for many years,” Howe said.

Bruno Guimaraes is key for Newcastle and any success

Newcastle have been steadily building under Eddie Howe and there’s no doubt that Bruno has been a key element of that build.

His talent and performances always mean he’s going to attract interest and as Howe says, the key for Newcastle is convincing him to stay put.

There is an acceptance that if the £100m clause is hit then he will go.

But to build further, you need your top players to stick around and it would be a real shame to see Guimaraes leave, especially if Newcastle go out and add more quality.

With a few around him and more depth in the squad, Newcastle could make a real go of things next season again.

However, you have to feel that any success is going to rely on Bruno staying, and then quality additions being brought in to supplement.
