Manchester United need defensive signings this summer.
The Red Devils’ back line has been exposed this season, and with Raphael Varane supposedly set to leave in the summer, United need a new centre-half.
One man who knows a thing or two about playing a the heart of the Manchester United defence is Wes Brown, and speaking to Tribal Football, he’s suggested one defensive signing for United.
Indeed, Brown says that Jarrad Branthwaite would be a good signing for United, claiming that he’d like to see his former club put more emphasis on signing young players who can improve.

Brown spoke about the Everton star.
“Branthwaite, yeah he’s been good. Honestly, going forwards it would be nice to see some younger players coming in. Maybe not with that top level experience but you can see maybe if you put them in a really good team they would excel. Yes, it’s a bit of a gamble because you never know what’s going to happen in football, but I think you have to look that way a little but for the future,” Brown said.
Jarrad Branthwaite would be a gamble
Jarrad Branthwaite looks to have all the makings of being a star, but, at the same time, we have to suggest Manchester United tread carefully here.
Branthwaite has looked solid in a Sean Dyche team that puts a lot of emphasis on defending, and we’ve seen these sorts of gambles backfire before.
Indeed, signing a defender who shines at a mid-to-lower level Premier League club can be a huge risk, especially when Branthwaite is being branded as a £100m player.
We’ve seen United fall into this sort of trap before when signing Harry Maguire, and while Branthwaite does look promising, you never know what a player is going to deliver at the top level until they actually make the step up.
