‘Unbelievable’: James Tarkowski hails ‘incredible’ Everton player after MOTM performance vs Brentford

Everton were simply outstanding against Brentford, as they made light work of Thomas Frank’s side to preserve their top-flight status.

Defensively flawless and good enough offensively to grab the crucial winner, it was Idrissa Gana Gueye’s 60th-minute scorcher from just inside the box that once again secured all three points for the Toffees.

However, he was not alone in winning this game for Sean Dyche, who once again watched his side give everything for the badge.

They were all heroes today, but one man has been commanding far more praise than anyone else.

James Tarkowski praises Idrissa Gana Gueye

Speaking to Sky Sports after Everton’s crucial victory, which once again secured their Premier League status for another year, James Tarkowski was effusive in his praise for one man.

And given Jamie Carragher had handed him Sky Sports’ Man of the Match award after his showing, it is no surprise that Gueye was once again the target of affection.

However, Tarkowski’s comments would come after he voiced his general adulation for the entire squad and the adversity they have overcome.

The former Burnley man noted: ‘It’s been some turnaround. Last week [the 6-0 loss to Chelsea] was probably the lowest point of our season. To come back the way we have, with three wins, a derby win, and today again… I think today’s the toughest game of the three just because of the high of the other night.

‘Fair play to the lads and the manager. We were in a dark place. To turn us around in that time, the lads have shown up and given their all and you can see how much it means to those fans.

‘[Idrissa] Gueye has been incredible. Two massive goals, first of all, but the work he gets through for us is unbelievable.’

Everton impossible to breach at the moment after Brentford win

Having cruised to a 1-0 victory earlier today, it marked a third straight home defeat, and a third successive home clean sheet too.

First brushing aside Nottingham Forest in an imperative relegation six-pointer, there was a huge element of fortune as dubious officiating shone down upon them.

However, there was no luck involved in their emphatic derby win, ending 14 years of hurt to finally beat Liverpool at Goodison Park.

And now Brentford are the latest to fall to Dyche’s superb solidity, having been afforded ten shots, but only four on target, most of which were comfortable for Jordan Pickford.

Limiting teams to many low-value shots has been a staple of this Everton side throughout the campaign, and at last it is paying dividends.

Premier League safety is the least they deserve for a fine season despite all the struggles.
