Antony in complete awe at one Man Utd star’s ‘excellent’ season and is ‘really pleased’ for two other teammates

Antony has insisted that one of his Manchester United teammates is having an “excellent season” and said that he deserves “full credit” for his performances.

The 24-year-old Manchester United winger has struggled to prove the naysayers wrong since his big-money move from Ajax in 2022.

Antony was reunited with United manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford after previously working with the 54-year-old Dutchman at Ajax.

The United star, who arrived at Old Trafford in a deal worth £81.3m, has remained a regular pick under former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag amid his struggling form.

Antony has made 26 Premier League appearances in the current campaign and has failed to find the back of the net, with the United player picking up only one assist.

Despite his poor showing in the league this season, Ten Hag has backed the Brazil international to turn things around and weather the criticism he has received.

Antony praises Man Utd star

Speaking ahead of the Burnley match on Saturday, Antony opened up about the successful season that Alejandro Garnacho has had at Old Trafford.

Alejandro Garnacho has impressed during the current campaign and the Manchester United star has been a regular starter under Erik ten Hag.

The 19-year-old Spain-born winger and Antony have been challenging for the starting place out on the right, though Garnacho has also played out on the left.

Antony insisted that Garnacho has been “excellent” this season and he is “really happy” with how the Argentina international has performed at United.

“It’s certainly been an excellent season for Garnacho,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“He’s still a very young lad and full credit to him for his performances.

“I’m really happy for him and hope he continues doing what he knows how to do with a focused mind and continues helping us marking, making passes and running for the team.”

Antony’s verdict on two Man Utd teammates

Garnacho is not the only United youth academy product who is enjoying a successful season at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo, who came through the academy alongside Garnacho, has had a remarkable breakout season at United and has been a regular starter for Ten Hag.

Willy Kambwala has also emerged in the United senior team this season and made sporadic appearances, with the youngster gaining invaluable first-team experience.

Antony said Willy Kambwala has shown his “hard-working” mentality and described United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo as a “huge talent.”

“I’m really pleased for them,” he said.

“Willy is really hard-working, always training hard and I’m delighted with the game he had against Liverpool [the 2-2 draw in the Premier League].

“He had a great game and I congratulated him afterwards.”

Speaking on Mainoo, Antony continued: “Kobbie has had a longer run of games. He’s a huge talent. I see so much talent there and I’m really happy for his performances.

“I’ve been in the position of these young players – although I’m still only 24, I was also playing at their age as well.

“With their talent, together with focus, a supportive family and looking after themselves, things will happen naturally for them.”
