What Aston Villa fans sang about Robin Olsen during the 34-year-old’s cameo against Chelsea - journalist

Aston Villa experienced a frustrating night at Villa Park against Chelsea, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side came from behind to see the game end in a 2-2 draw, a match that became a surprise test for goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

Unai Emery watched his Aston Villa side crack under Chelsea’s pressure on Saturday night as the Villans were forced to share the points with the Blues.

Despite going in 2-0 ahead at halftime, the hosts will feel somewhat fortunate to have gained a point from the fixture, as Axel Disasi thought he’d won the game at the death, a goal that was ruled out by VAR.

It was a night of drama in Birmingham, as Villa took the lead after just four minutes courtesy of a Marc Cucurella own goal, with their lead extended by Morgan Rogers just before the interval.

The second half undoubtedly belonged to Chelsea, who got back into the fixture as Villa looked sluggish, portrayed by Emery shouting at his players from the touchline.

After going 2-0 up, it turned out to be an unexpectedly difficult game for Villa, one that wasn’t eased by losing goalkeeper Emi Martinez at halftime, seeing Robin Olsen spring into action.

What Aston Villa fans were singing about Robin Olsen against Chelsea

It was a sight that nobody wanted to see, as Martinez failed to return to the pitch in the second half due to what was reported to be a hamstring injury.

While Olsen is gearing up to play in the Europa Conference League semi-final due to the Argentine’s suspension, the 34-year-old perhaps didn’t expect to be called into action as early as this evening.

Martinez is a hero at Villa Park, with fans regularly singing his praises as ‘the world’s number one’ however, the home fans didn’t stop their appreciation for the man between the posts when Olsen was introduced.

Instead, Villa fans sang ‘Robin Olsen, the world’s number two’ in what was an embrace of light humour between fans and the second-choice shot-stopper, as relayed by journalist Jacob Tanswell.

The Sweden international pulled off an outstanding save from Cole Palmer late in the fixture although, left some ‘worried’ just before the final whistle.

Stan Collymore was ‘worried’ about Robin Olsen during Aston Villa 2-2 Chelsea

Olsen would have been the most relieved person inside Villa Park to see Disasi’s goal ruled out, as the Frenchman’s header in the dying embers went over his head and there was an argument as to whether the keeper could have prevented the corner.

Reacting to the late drama, pundit Stan Collymore admitted the goalkeeper’s actions left him ‘really worried’, with the reserve keeper set to play a vital part in Villa’s hopes of European glory.

That being said, Olsen pulled off what proved to be a point-winning save to deny Palmer before the ruled-out goal, earning his flowers on what was a poor night defensively for Villa, who looked sluggish and unable to cope with the pace of Chelsea’s press.
