Ten Alabama players selected in seven rounds of 2024 NFL Draft

Ten Alabama players were drafted in the seven rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft this weekend in Detroit, as four more players heard their names called during Rounds 4-7 on Saturday.

Defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe was the first player off the board on Saturday, as the senior was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the 105th overall pick (Round 4). There were no players taken in Round 5, but a pair of Crimson Tide alums were scooped up in the sixth round. Running back Jase McClellan went to the Atlanta Falcons with pick No. 186, while placekicker Will Reichard was chosen by the Minnesota Vikings at No. 203. On the final pick of the draft (257), safety Jaylen Key heard his name called by the New York Jets.

Reichard’s selection meant that Alabama saw every single position – special teams included – taken in the NFL draft during former coach Nick Saban’s tenure. Kicker was the final feather in Saban’s hat, and he added it with the NCAA’s all-time leader in career points scored. The 10 draft picks gave Saban 133 for his Alabama career, including 47 first-rounders.

The Crimson Tide has now had at least seven draft picks in 13 straight years (2012-24), and the 10 players taken were tied for the second-most in school history (1945, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023). Since 2009, Alabama’s 133 draft picks are the most by any college program.

UA did not have the most players drafted this year – that honor went to defending national champ Michigan (13). Texas was second with 11 draft picks, while Alabama was tied with Florida State and Washington with 10 selections. It was a strong showing in Detroit for new head coach Kalen DeBoer, who saw 10 of his former players taken during the seven rounds.

In addition to the 10 players from last year’s team, three former Tide players who left the program via the transfer portal were also drafted on Saturday. Khyree Jackson joined Dallas Turner and Reichard in Minnesota (Pick 108), wide receiver Javon Baker was picked two picks later by the New England Patriots (110) and running back Keilan Robinson was taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars at 167. They were all part of UA’s 2020 championship team.

While it was a memorable weekend for 10 former Alabama players, there were a couple of guys who didn’t hear their names called. Darrian Dalcourt and Trezmen Marshall were not selected in the 257 total picks and will now try to make an NFL roster as undrafted free agents.
