The professional football dream for former Michigan offensive lineman Trente Jones has finally come true. The former Wolverine has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Now, he’ll be looking to prove worthy of his status, as he moves to the next level in his football journey.
Jones played high school football at Grayson (GA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 110 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
After a fulfilling career with the Wolverines, Trente Jones is moving on from Michigan to the NFL. We’ll see how he does, but he’ll certainly have a ton of support behind him as he makes the move to the next level.
What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Trente Jones
Moreover, Lance Zierlein of NFL.com took some time to evaluate many of the prospects available for the 2024 NFL Draft, including the former Michigan offensive lineman.
Zierlein provided his full analysis of Jones’ potential in the NFL, believing he has the talent to make it at the next level, but he’ll have to develop a bit more.
“Jones has limited starts and relatively few offensive snaps by NFL offensive line standards but he’s put outstanding flashes on tape,” Zierlein wrote. “He lacks the size and length teams look for at tackle or guard, but he’s talented enough to play at either spot. He loses reps due to poor positioning or overstepping his landmarks, but is rarely beaten by an opponent’s quickness or power. Jones is highly athletic, with the ability to bend and drive opponents off the spot or stall the rush with his punch and cinch.
“He has the talent to play in all blocking schemes, but there might be concerns about why he failed to establish himself as a full-time starter at Michigan.”
Additionally, Zierlein provided a list of what he believes Jones’ strengths are, “Loose-limbed with outstanding movement talent. Explodes hips and hands into first contact. Generates terrific lower-body push on down blocks and double-teams. Smooth climber on work-up blocks to the linebacker,” were included.
Alas, it’s up to Trente Jones to make it happen in the NFL, but he certainly has a believer in Lance Zierlein.
