Justin Trudeau's ex gives Meghan Markle cold shoulder after duchess describes her as 'dear friend'

It appears that Meghan Markle and Sophie Trudeau aren't as close as they used to be.

The Duchess of Sussex and the former wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appear to be on different pages in their friendship. Meghan spoke about their closeness on her now defunct podcast Archetypes.

In November 2022, Meghan said on the podcast: "I've gone to her over the years for advice." She added Sophie would "send me little meditations during my pregnancy" and gave her voice notes "of encouragement".

Meghan continued to describe how their children would play together while Sophie and Meghan drank wine and were "giddy like absolute schoolgirls". Meanwhile when Sophie was recently asked about her friendship with the American Riviera Orchard founder, she sang a different tune.

In an interview with The Times, Sophie said: "I know her... but we haven't spent much time together."

During the same interview, Sophie was asked about Meghan's sister-in-law, Kate Middleton. Sophie admitted her "heart just sunk" when she found out about Kate's cancer diagnosis that was revealed last month.

It's unclear what happened between the two that so much has changed, but it could have to do with Meghan's reported falling out with her former best friend Jessica Mulroney who used to be Sophie's stylist. Meghan started to distance herself from the stylist.

According to Page Six, a source told the outlet that Meghan thought Jessica was "trying to make a career out of their friendship". Meanwhile, a royal expert claimed that Meghan was using the friendship as well.

"I think she's a bit strategic with her friends and once she's finished with them, she casts them aside and forgets all about them, deletes their number and blocks their number in some cases," said Charlotte Griffiths when she spoke on Palace Confidential.

Charlotte then cited an Urban Dictionary slang term - "Markled." The word, which references the Duchess herself, describes when someone starts to distance themselves from someone who "contributed to your life in a meaningful way".

Right now, Meghan seems to be focused on launching her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard. She recently sent 50 jars of jam from the brand to famous faces like Kris Jenner.
