Abdoulaye Doucoure now backs 21-year-old Everton player to be ‘one of the greatest’ in Premier League history

Everton were incisive in attaining yesterday’s victory, with another clash going by where almost everyone impressed.

They were, to a man, pretty much faultless, as they were against Liverpool, and as they were against Nottingham Forest too.

Now, the Toffees are enjoying a three-match winning streak at home, alongside three consecutive clean sheets.

It’s certainly been an emphatic return to form for Sean Dyche’s side.

And the feel-good factor seems to have reemerged too, with Abdoulaye Doucoure gushing with praise for one of his teammates.

Abdoulaye Doucoure backs Everton star for greatness

Chatting with Sky Sports ahead of Everton’s clash with Brentford just yesterday, Abdoulaye Doucoure was asked his thoughts on Jarrad Branthwaite.

After all, we know what every pundit and fan thinks about this truly special talent who has burst onto the scene this season, but to get the feeling from inside the camp is a true measure of his quality.

Well, the Mali international only confirmed what we already knew, as he noted: ‘I already see him as a great, great defender, to be honest.

‘I think he will have a huge career ahead of him. He is one of the best defenders at his age in this country, down to earth. We all wish him the best.

‘He can be one of the greatest defenders in the Premier League. I think he is only 21 or 22 years old. If he carries on like this, why not?’

Jarrad Branthwaite is already mature beyond his years

Branthwaite being a truly exceptional footballer is not new news for Evertonians, but it is refreshing to hear new people in positions of influence say it.

After all, he has been absolutely exemplary, and yesterday was just business as usual.

He went about pocketing Ivan Toney with immeasurable ease, recording two clearances, one block, one interception and winning four of his five aerial duels too, via Sofascore.

The titanic 21-year-old has upheld Everton’s remarkable defence with James Tarkowski all season, and should he leave next season they are set to struggle massively.

It is virtually impossible to replace his height, pace, power, comfort in possession, left-footedness, Englishness and his youth, regardless of how much money they get.

And his maturity is exhibited in his decision-making and his fine reading of the game, snuffing out most attacks before they even become a threat.

He really is going right to the top. Hopefully, he chooses to stick around and bring Everton with him.
