Paqueta makes big U-turn with summer twist on the cards

West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta has just opened up on his future at the London Stadium.

Lucas Paqueta joined West Ham from Lyon back in the summer of 2022, and he has been a big hit at the London Stadium on the whole.

However, the Brazilian incurred the wrath of the Hammers fans when he didn’t bother turning up at the London Stadium to watch his teammates in action against Bayer Leverkusen last week.

Paqueta was actually heavily linked with a move to Manchester City last summer.

In fact, the 26-year-old had apparently agreed to join Man City, before it emerged that he was under investigation for breaches of betting rules.

That investigation still hasn’t concluded, but if he is cleared entirely, most people think that a move to the Etihad will happen for Paqueta.

Could a big twist be about to unfold though?

Lucas Paqueta U-turn with summer twist on the cards for West Ham star

The Brazilian has actually agreed terms with Man City, if you believe a recent report from Goal.

Paqueta is an incredibly talented player and if we’re being honest, you could see him playing under Pep Guardiola.

However, a big U-turn could be on the cards for the former Lyon star, judging by his latest comments.

Paqueta responded when asked by ESPN Brazil if he will leave the Hammers to join the Premier League champions this summer:

“I have to do my job here at West Ham. I have great respect for the club. I’m very happy here, if you say no, I’ll be lying. Of course it involves a lot of things that are happening off the field, but I’m still focused on doing my best, finishing the season well. I started well, I hope to finish well. What they say (about Manchester City) is everything from the last window. Now, it’s time to finish the season and wait for what will happen.”

Paqueta has changed his tune then. Back last summer it was claimed that he had his heart set on a move to Manchester City.

In my opinion, much will depend on who’s managing us next season. If Moyes is still here, I honestly believe that the Brazilian will leave.

A man with his talent in possession cannot continue to play in a team that allows the opposition to have the ball.

However, if a forward-thinking, attack-minded, progressive manager comes in to the London Stadium to replace Moyes, I think the 26-year-old may well be tempted to stay.

So could Lucas Paqueta stay at West Ham? I certainly wouldn’t rule it out…
