‘Unlucky pal’: Ashley Young fires hilarious six-word dig at rival fan after Everton avoid relegation

Everton have avoided the drop yet again, with yesterday’s win over Brentford the final push they needed to cross that fated finish line.

April has been a monumental month for Sean Dyche and his team, and aside from the mauling at Chelsea they have won three and drawn one, picking up more points across a four-week spell than they have done across the last four months.

A truly miraculous turnaround, the players showcased their relief with a slew of Instagram and X posts thanking fans and previewing a hopefully brighter future.

And yet, ever the wind-up, Ashley Young sought to react to a rival fan.

Ashley Young pokes fun at rival fan

Having endured a tough campaign where he has been forced to plug gaps out wide and at full-back, his performances certainly suffered from such inconsistency.

However, that does not excuse his early-season form, which saw him give away a penalty and make two errors leading to a goal.

Amongst Evertonians, he was something of a maligned figure, but he has shifted the narrative in recent weeks with some stellar showings.

Even against Nottingham Forest, where on another day he might have conceded three penalties, his performance was admirable and his post-match antics hilarious.

Well, he has been at it again, seeking out one rival fan who wrote earlier this month: ‘You’re getting relegated pal’.

Young’s response was short, sharp and brilliant, claiming: ‘UNLUCKY PAL , I DONT THINK SO’.

Everton have cruised to Premier League safety in the end

Although it did look somewhat uncertain at times, it really feels like Everton are just inevitable when it comes to avoiding the Premier League drop.

No matter what lies ahead of them, or what has been thrown their way, the manner in which this club just takes it in stride and continues to somehow succeed in their survival goal is mesmerising.

During the 2021/22 campaign, Rafael Benitez seemed destined to drag them into the Championship, before Frank Lampard recaptured some semblance of spirit to steer them clear.

Then, the following season saw the introduction of Dyche, who whilst only narrowly, achieved the same feat.

And now, with three games of the season left and having been dealt an eight-point deduction too, Everton are already safe.

The 52-year-old manager deserves all kinds of credit for how he has reinvigorated a club that seemed down and out, and hopefully now he is given some further resources to see exactly what he can do with some backing at a club of this size and stature.
