Anyone who feasted their eyes on the Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 trailer may have assumed congratulations would be in order for Captain Sandy Yawn – but it turns out she’s still not married. The much-loved captain is at the helm of motor yacht Mustique this season. But, fans get to see more of Sandy’s life than just taking charge of the ship.
Captain Sandy Yawn is a Below Deck captain who often keeps it candid with her fans. She’s spoken in the past of her dealings with addiction, following a path to sobriety before landing a job in the boating world. She recently also explained in an interview how she once had a heart attack at the gym. In season 9, fans will get to see more of Sandy’s personal life, including the woman she plans to marry – Leah Shafer.

Bravo’s Captain Sandy allows the cameras in on her love life during Below Deck Med’s new season.
She reveals how her girlfriend, Leah Shafer, is coming to visit her before surprising her partner with a marriage proposal.
The moment appears to be totally adorable, per the Below Deck trailer, and Sandy’s co-stars and crew members watch on in excitement as she pops the question.
Aesha Scott can be seen and heard screaming as Captain Sandy says: “I love you so much,” and asks: “Will you…”
Below Deck star isn’t married
The new season of Below Deck Med was filmed some time ago.
Charter guest Trishelle Cannatella revealed she appeared on the show before heading onto The Traitors.
Captain Sandy proposed back in September 2023, writes People.
She told the outlet: “I have been thinking about marrying Leah for years.” But, between September and today, the two still aren’t married.
This April, she reveals how they’re “not married yet,” and invites fans along for the journey.
Her caption reads: “No, we did NOT get married… YET. Come along with Leah and I as we take our next step in love, getting our Marriage License! This is just the beginning, stay tuned for more to come Thank you everyone for your love and support”.
The two shared a video of themselves getting their marriage license. As Sandy leaves the building she says: “It’s official,” before giving Leah a kiss.
