'Walked past him': Ian Wright slams £70m Manchester United star v Burnley, Gary Lineker laughs at his display

Another game and another frustrating afternoon for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United.

Whether it’s a Championship team, bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United or second-to-bottom, Burnley.

These Manchester United players have no response to see out a game, dominate, kill it off or prove that they are far better.

Against Burnley, the scoreline after the full-time whistle read 1-1, but as Ian Wright pointed out, Vincent Kompany and his players were ‘very unlucky’ not to get all three points, as he told Match of the Day.

One of the constant issues facing the under pressure ten Hag and his players has been their inability to defend.

Time and time again, Manchester United are wide open and they allow shot after shot at their goal. It’s a common theme for them to concede 15+ regularly, no matter who they are facing, even Coventry in the FA Cup.

At Old Trafford, against a team that will probably end up getting relegated in May, the home side proceeded to concede 16 shots at their goal.

Wright, once again, pointed to the wide open gaps in the middle of the park and highlighted one player in particular – Casemiro.

No one in that Manchester United dressing room is more experienced or trophy-laden than the former Real Madrid star.

Yet, Gary Lineker was laughing as Wright explained how Sander Berge ‘walked past’ the £70 million midfielder during the game.

Casemiro’s display against Burnley

“This is the midfield and how easy you can get past their midfield,” said Wright.

“This is Sander Berge with Casemiro. He just has to stop and not let him come through and he just walked past him (Lineker then laughs in the background). They have had more possession than Manchester United at Old Trafford, Burnley, who are second from bottom.

“I think they have been very unlucky Burnley to have not won this game. They could have won this game with better finishing.”

Will Casemiro leave Manchester United?

First off, nobody yet knows if ten Hag will actually stay or leave. That’s the first thing that needs to be addressed.

Once that happens, then the focus can switch to the players and who to sell because you can get rid of the whole lot, that’s how poor they have been.

Even though Casemiro has been a legendary figure in European football and won numerous Champions Leagues.

The Man United fans have to admit that this is a signing that simply hasn’t worked and you wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves in the summer.
