'Incredible': Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds react as Wrexham beat Stockport County on final day

Wrexham have ended the League Two season on a positive note having beaten champions Stockport County 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Fans piled into the STōK Cae Ras as Wrexham walked out one last time before heading to League One.

There wasn’t much at stake here with both clubs already promotion and the title heading to Edgeley Park, but these two teams have been rivals in recent years and fans were certainly well up for it.

Stockport took the lead in the first half as Connor Lemonheigh-Evans opened the scoring, only for Ollie Palmer to level it up after the break.

Ex-County midfielder Andy Cannon then pounced to haunt his former club, smashing home to hand Wrexham a 2-1 victory.

Wrexham end the season with 88 points, recording 26 wins, 10 draws and 10 defeats from 46 League Two games.

That leaves Wrexham in second place, four points behind winners Stockport but going up with three straight victories.

Ryan Reynolds reacts to Wrexham victory

Back-to-back promotions is quite the achievement for Wrexham and continues a quite remarkable rise under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

The club has now accelerated from National League to League One in rapid fashion and the club’s co-owners deserve huge praise.

Reynolds has now taken to social media to react not just to Saturday’s victory, but to the season as a whole.

Reynolds noted that this was a ‘huge victory’ and a simply ‘incredible finish’ to the season for Wrexham, bringing another promotion.

The Canadian did add a congratulatory message to Stockport, congratulating them on a title-winning season whilst looking ahead to more meetings between the two sides next season.

Rob McElhenney adds his reaction

McElhenney has also taken to social media, celebrating a superb end to the season with Wrexham finishing up with a victory.

McElhenney congratulated everybody inside Wrexham who had a hand in the promotion, including Reynolds himself.

The ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ star said that the win and the promotion is for everybody inside the STōK Cae Ras, adding that it’s ‘time to celebrate’.

That likely means another strip to Las Vegas for the Wrexham squad this summer, with McElhenney and Reynolds funding a real promotion party once again.

Wrexham will also have big pre-season games to look forward to, taking on Chelsea, Bournemouth and Vancouver Whitecaps ahead of the League One.

For now though, it’s all about just celebrating and appreciating another outstanding season in this quite incredible journey.
