Report: Derby County boss Paul Warne wants to sign 'unbelievable' 20-year-old this summer

Derby County have just been linked with a 20-year-old midfielder.

Derby sealed automatic promotion back to the Championship yesterday after defeating Carlisle United 2-0 at Pride Park.

Paul Warne‘s side finished the campaign in second place with 92 points and only conceded 37 goals, the fewest in the division.

That sets them up well for the step up to the second-tier and a busy summer transfer window is expected to ensue, with 15 players out of contract.

Derby County have a lot of work to do

The Rams have a lot of work to do in the summer to prepare themselves for the transition to Championship level.

With many expected to depart on free transfers at the end of their contracts, club chiefs must have a list of targets already drawn up.

Joe Wildsmith and Conor Hourihane are two key players who are out of contract but with promotion sealed, surely the club are in a position to extend their stay in the East Midlands.

Max Bird played his final match in a Derby strip yesterday, as he will return to Bristol City after his loan spell.

Bird will be a major loss for The Rams but it seems they’ve already identified a replacement for the academy graduate.

According to Glasgow World, Derby are interested in signing Bosun Lawal, who enjoyed an outstanding loan spell with Fleetwood Town this term.

The ‘unbelievable’ 20-year-old returns to his parent club Celtic with interest across the Football League, as Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers are also keeping tabs on him.

Fleetwood Town boss Charlie Adam has been full of praise for his loanee and admitted there aren’t many like him in the Championship.

“How he dribbles with the ball, his touches and passes. There are not many midfielders like that in the Championship in England let alone League One. So, he has got a bright future. He is at a big football club in Celtic,” Adam said.

Lawal joined Fleetwood as a centre-back but has slowly moulded into a midfielder as the season progressed, which evinces his tremendous versatility.

Derby will have a tough time in fending off competition but if they do land his signature, it’ll be a real statement.
