Jeremie Frimpong says Man City have a midfielder who is actually better than Martin Odegaard

Jeremie Frimpong has claimed that Manchester City have a player who is better than Martin Odegaard.

This season, Odegaard has showcased once again why he is a special player.

At the start of the campaign, the Norwegian international did not look at his best and surprisingly so, considering how remarkable he was during the 2022/2023 season.

However, as they say, the cream rises to the top.

Martin Odegaard has been utilised in a deeper role by Mikel Arteta and some would argue he is playing the best football of his career in his newfound position.

Last season, Odegaard was an out-and-out number 10.

Frimpong says Man City have a player who is better than Odegaard

This season, one could classify the Arsenal captain as a hybrid between an attacking midfielder and a number eight.

Odegaard drifts between both zones.

As a result, while the former Real Madrid midfielder is not scoring as many goals this season, his influence on his Gunners side has been undeniably massive.

But City have several midfielders who can be pitted against any player in their respective positions in the world, as has been the case for years on end.

Phil Foden is one of them, who Anton Ferdinand previously claimed has had a superior campaign to Martin Odegaard.

Rodri has also been exceptional but he is a number six, unlike Odegaard and as a result, the pair cannot really be compared.

However, when quizzed about who is the better attacking midfielder between Martin Odegaard, Dominic Szoboszlai and Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremie Frimpong replied [via GOAL on TikTok], “Kevin De Bruyne.”

Frimpong has not let recency bias creep into how he views De Bruyne

In our view, Jeremie Frimpong is not letting recency bias creep into how he rates Kevin De Bruyne in a comparison with Martin Odegaard.

With the £54.5 million man having been injured for much of the ongoing campaign, the masses would justifiably state that Odegaard has been better than him this season.

However, it is not a fair comparison in particular due to De Bruyne’s hamstring injury keeping him out when the 24-year-old started most games for his side and had a chance to showcase his class.

But when the pair have been at City and Arsenal respectively while being fit and firing, there has not been a single season where Odegaard has outperformed him.

Jeremie Frimpong perhaps realises that and as a result, he has backed a legend of the game like Kevin De Bruyne over a potential future icon such as Martin Odegaard.
