'We'll see what happens' - Barcelona target speaks on rumoured transfer

By Jude Summerfield

Guido Rodriguez claims he is happy at Real Betis as rumours mount over transfer interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.

Barca have snapped up free agents like Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez as a result of the club's financial turmoil and reports have suggested the Catalan giants see Rodriguez, whose contract expires at the end of the season, as a worthwhile target in the summer transfer window.

His arrival would likely see Oriol Romeu depart while another first-team midfielder will be sought and, while Rodriguez admitted he is content at Betis, the 2022 World Cup winner added he is unsure of what the future holds.

He said: "I feel at home at Betis. I feel very comfortable here, I'm very happy, I've been here for four and a half years and the truth is that I'm happy, very happy and enjoying these last remaining games of the season.

"You have to make decisions in life and well, we'll see what happens at the end of the season. The truth is that as of today, neither I nor the club have any certainty about what might happen.

"There is not a single option on which my decision depends. It depends on many things. I've already said it, it's a recurring theme and I don't want to create any false expectations or say anything for people."

Barca will look to build a squad capable of challenging Real Madrid for the La Liga title during the summer after confirming manager Xavi will not step down from his post.

Gavi suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury back in November and hasn't played since, while midfield partner Pedri has consistently gone down with fitness issues having been overworked at a young age.

Frenkie de Jong has also missed games recently through injury, with summer arrival Gundogan making more La Liga appearances than any of his teammates with 31.
