'Didn't know how': Shaun Wright-Phillips says Aston Villa really couldn't cope with £30m Chelsea man

Defensively, Chelsea were not great once again in their draw with Aston Villa last night.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s men conceded twice in the first half, with Marc Cucurella turning the ball into his own net for Aston Villa’s first goal.

However, going forward, they were better compared to Tuesday night in their 5-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher both managed to get their names on the scoresheet, with the latter’s strike being an excellent one.

Chelsea did well to get a draw in the end, but they really needed the three points in the race for European football.

Shaun Wright-Phillips says Aston Villa could not handle Chelsea star

It was Madueke who started Chelsea’s comeback when he scored just after the hour mark, and former Blues player Shaun Wright-Phillips was impressed with his overall performance.

On the winger, who cost Chelsea £30m, the Premier League pundit said: “I think in the second half the two goals they got complemented the possession they had in the first half.

“Madueke was going past his man, Lucas Digne didn’t know how to deal with him, he was causing all sorts of problems. For me [the disallowed goal] is a foul.”

Noni Madueke too tricky for Aston Villa

Madueke was definitely a player who Villa failed to contain last night.

As per WhoScored, the England international managed to record six dribbles, which was more than any other person on the pitch.

It is easily Madueke’s best attribute. If the former PSV Eindhoven man can start to combine that with more goals, then he could go on to become a really dangerous player for Chelsea.

The Blues have another tough game against Tottenham Hotspur so need more of the same from Madueke.
