Aston Villa set to rival European giants to sign 27-year-old FA Cup winner this summer

Aston Villa are on the brink of a historic campaign.

The midlands club are currently fourth in the Premier League and can look forward to a Europa Conference League semi-final against Olympiacos.

Beloved manager Unai Emery has done a remarkable job having replaced Steven Gerrard in October 2022 and the delight amongst the Villa fanbase when the Spaniard signed a new contract last week is testament to this.

Villa will, though, be frustrated as they failed to secure all three points having gone 2-0 up against Chelsea on Saturday night before being pegged back to draw 2-2.

Ollie Watkins was unable to score a record-breaking 20th league goal of the campaign as a Marc Cucurella own goal was followed by Morgan Rogers‘ second goal in as many games.

This result means Tottenham can go above Emery’s side if they win their three games in hand.

Achieving a Champions League spot is likely to have a big impact on Villa’s summer transfer plans and they are now being linked with a move for an FA Cup winner.

Aston Villa eye move for Wilfred Ndidi

The Villans have a very good squad, but their ambitions mean that they are always looking to improve.

With this in mind it is no surprise to see the club linked with exciting names and latest reports suggest they are planning to rival Italian giants Juventus for a summer move for Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi.

Italian outlet Tutto Juve are reporting that Juventus are ‘not alone’ in the race for Ndidi and list Villa, as well as Brentford, Crystal Palace and Fulham as other interested parties.

The 27-year-old was part of the FA Cup winning Leicester side in 2021 and has been crucial this season in securing an instant return to the top flight for the Foxes, playing in a more advanced role than previously he had been associated with.

This move forward has been reflected in his statistics, with the Nigerian registering six goals and six assists in all competitions this season according to Transfermarkt.

What makes this deal all the more attractive is the fact that Ndidi’s contract is set to expire this summer so he is likely to be available for free.

Villa have good options in central midfield, so is it worth adding Ndidi to the mix?

John McGinn is a stalwart in the side, whilst Youri Tielemans has been enjoying his best spell of form since joining in the summer recently.

Boubacar Kamara is the most naturally defensive of the central midfielders at the club but has had his injury troubles.

Douglas Luiz returned against Chelsea but is constantly surrounded by speculation regarding his future and perhaps this is one of the main reasons the Villa hierarchy are exploring a deal.

With 192 Premier League appearances to his name, Ndidi would also bring a wealth of experience as well as a slightly different skillet to the midfielders currently at a club so this seems like a deal worth pursuing.
