'Straight after': Sky Sports reporter shares what Mikel Arteta did as soon as full-time blew at Spurs today

Arsenal held on for a huge win at Tottenham today as they continued to keep themselves in the title race.

Despite being 3-0 up at half-time, Arsenal made hard work of things in the second half as goals from Cristian Romero and then Heung-Min Son from the spot ensured a nervy finish.

However, despite Tottenham pressing and pushing, Arsenal held firm and after Son spurned a cross out for a goal kick, the full-time whistle went, much to the delight of everyone Arsenal-related.

Of course, Mikel Arteta was one of the happiest men in the stadium and the Spaniard was immediately onto the pitch to congratulate and embrace his players.

One player in particular seemed to get the special treatment immediately from Arteta as well.

Shared by Sky Sports reporter Zinny Boswell, Arteta made a beeline for goalkeeper David Raya, who had made a massive mistake to allow Romero to score.

“Arsenal fans are celebrating like a goal has just gone in. This feels absolutely mammoth for them. The whole team ran over to the away fans. Raya got a hug from Arteta straight after the full-time whistle. It nearly all fell apart at the end, but Arsenal have grown up since last season and aren’t going anywhere in this title race,” Boswell commented.

David Raya is always going to make the odd error

The way Mikel Arteta has his goalkeepers playing means that in certain games, they’re going to make the odd error.

Raya had his time today as he panicked and almost tried to be too clever with a clearance but the reality is that it’s a surprise it’s not happened sooner.

Ultimately though, Raya has been a superb signing for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta knows full well he has brought in a top goalkeeper who has shut down the noise since arriving.

After all the talk about Aaron Ramsdale, Raya is now firmly Arsenal’s main man and this embrace from Arteta was another sign of the manager’s love for his stopper.
