‘Credit to them’: Ange Postecoglou shares what impressed him about Arsenal today

Ange Postecoglou has praised Arsenal following Tottenham Hotspur’s North London Derby defeat today.

Tottenham endured a nightmare first half as Mikel Arteta’s men raced into a 3-0 lead ahead of the break.

Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz got amongst the goals after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg turned the ball into his own net for Arsenal’s opener.

Spurs threatened to spoil the party for Arsenal after grabbing two goals in the second half.

Cristian Romero punished a lacklustre pass from David Raya before Heung-Min Son netted from the penalty spot.

It proved to be too little too late for Tottenham, who ultimately paid the price for some poor defending on the day.

Now, Ange Postecoglou has praised Spurs’ bitter rivals for getting the smaller details right following today’s defeat.

Postecoglou praises Arsenal after North London Derby

Speaking to Football.London, Postecoglou credited Arsenal for dealing with the finer details of the game.

“Credit to Arsenal there, they’re there,” the Aussie boss said. “They deal with those details. You can’t give time to opposition.”

Postecoglou was also unhappy with how many chances Spurs allowed Arteta’s side to have on the day.

“There are a lot of moments in games where if you give good opposition the time and space to do things they’re going to hurt you,” he added. “They had four shots in the first half I think and scored three goals.”

Arsenal’s win at Tottenham in numbers

It’s fair to say that Arsenal weren’t exactly at their best in today’s derby. In truth, the 3-0 scoreline at halftime flattered the Gunners.

But today displayed exactly why Arsenal will take this year’s title race right down to the wire.

Last season, Arsenal gave away a two-goal lead at Liverpool at a similar stage of the season. There was no repeat this time around and while Raya’s mistake led to a nervy second half, the Gunners ultimately got the job done.

The statistics from Sofascore reflect what was a decent performance from Spurs on the whole.

Postecoglou’s men had 62 per cent of the ball and managed 14 shots to Arsenal’s nine.

Tottenham also created 2.37 xG on the day, with Arsenal scoring three times from just 1.08 xG.

However, the Gunners delivered at crucial moments during today’s derby and that’s why they are fighting for the title.
