What Brendan Rodgers told the Celtic dressing room after Dens Park victory

Celtic are still sitting pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership tonight after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Dundee at Dens Park.

There are now just four league matches remaining this season and the Bhoys are on course to defend their title for a three-in-a-row triumph.

James Forrest rolled back the years with a superb double against the Dees – the first a ferocious volley and the other a fine drive through the legs of goalkeeper Jon McCracken.

Forrest is the man of the moment and it was brilliant to see such a decorated player step up to show title race hunger when we needed it most.

After the match, manager Brendan Rodgers made sure to let the Celtic dressing room know just how important the winger is to the squad.

Brendan Rodgers lauds James Forrest after Celtic beat Dundee

The Bhoys boss told BBC Radio Scotland: “Two great finishes. I said to the players afterwards that he has been one of the fathers of the great success that this club has had over the last decade, what he’s given on and off the pitch.

“He’s a real symbol of that success. Very humble, very understated and with immense quality. You saw that in both his finishes. The first one was absolutely brilliant and the second one he made it look easier than what it was.

“Every time he has the ball, he can keep the ball, he can beat a man, he can come inside, he can make a pass. Just absolutely fantastic he was, so I’m really pleased for him.

“I think he can go on. You see him stretching a lot and because of his position there is a lot of high-intensity work. It can catch up with you. But he’s making the impact we need from him. And he’s done that today and scored two great goals and won us the game.”

Rodgers lights a fire under Forrest

Just like his first spell as Celtic manager, Rodgers has managed to get the best out of Forrest, tapping into something that makes the winger tick for the Bhoys.

He’s not the perfect player of course but when he is direct, vibrant and always looking to cause danger for opponents, Premiership defences struggle to contain him.

He may have been at the club for what feels like forever but he can undoubtedly still play an important role in the remaining games of the season. If he fires Celtic to even more success, his legendary status is only going to be enhanced.
