'Absolutely magnificent': Michael Dawson blown away by 'fantastic' Nottingham Forest duo

Michael Dawson praised two Nottingham Forest stars after the Reds lost 2-0 to Manchester City earlier today.

Forest remain embroiled in a relegation battle in the Premier League and quite frankly, time is running out to save their season.

Luton were beaten by Wolves yesterday and that does keep Forest outside of the relegation zone for now.

Still, it would have been nice had Forest not been in this situation with three games to go and there is still big work to do.

Dawson was working for Sky Sports at the game today and he was extremely impressed with two City Ground stars.

Michael Dawson raves about two Nottingham Forest players

Forest do seem more of a threat when they play to their strengths and that means having two rapid wingers on the pitch.

Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi both played against City and that did give Forest some pace to try and torment City.

Things didn’t quite go according to plan but the two speed demons did at least earn some praise from former Forest defender Dawson.

He said live on Sky Sports: “There’s plenty of positives Nottingham Forest can take out of that game.

“I think Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi were absolutely magnificent. They will terrify defenders – we’re talking about Kyle Walker here.

“Hudson-Odoi made problems for him and they got in some fantastic positions, great opportunities and I’m sure Chris Wood – who’s been in a good vein of form, takes his chances normally – he’ll have sleepless nights.”

Forest must stay up to keep lively duo

Signing Hudson-Odoi for just £3 million looks like an inspired piece of business from a Forest perspective.

Elanga looks equally savvy, with the Sweden international costing £15 million from Manchester United in the summer.

Ultimately, Forest will face a battle to keep both players if the Reds go down this season – with both tailor-made for the Premier League.

It’s quite remarkable that Forest managed to get both players for under £20 million and the recruitment team deserves some praise for that.

Keeping hold of Elanga and Hudson-Odoi would be ideal given that both players still have bags of potential that is unearthed.

However, the club needs to stay in the Premier League if that is to become a possibility and Forest are now sweating on certain players.

Dawson was right to praise the Forest duo and on another day both players might have left with an assist or two to their names.
