The caution flag was brought out during Sunday’s Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park after a mannequin fell from the overpass and onto the racetrack.

Known as “Georgina,” the mannequin was run over by a car, prompting a response from the NBC broadcast crew.

“There’s been an accident of a different kind,” the broadcast stated. “Not a real person, we should point that out right away. … Put this into the list of things you don’t see at a racetrack. By the way, her name is Georgina, and this racetrack is full of lots of interesting characters and statues and things.”

Well, you don’t see that every day, although that may be an understatement. Fortunately, Georgina didn’t cause too much trouble to the field in the fourth IndyCar Series race of the season.

With Georgina taken care of, the race resumed in Birmingham, Alabama, for the remaining 30 laps. New Zealand native Scott McLaughlin won the race for the second consecutive season, his fifth career win in the IndyCar Series. McLaughlin, who sat on the pole, led 58-of-90 laps.

McLaughlin held off Team Penske teammate Will Power and Linus Lundqvist after a restart with two laps to go.

“We just gotta keep rolling,” McLaughlin said after the race, via Motorsport. “We know our job. know what we need to do. I’m just super proud of the execution. The Good Ranchers Chevy so good. Couple of yellows didn’t fall our way, but we just showed our pace and super proud of everyone. Let’s keep rolling man. Just execution.

“Execution; that’s our word. And just get going.”

The P3 finish for Lundqvist, meanwhile, is his first career podium in the IndyCar Series.

“I’m extremely happy with a podium,” Lundqvist said, via RACER. “It’s my first in IndyCar, and it’s been a bit rough for me the first couple of races, and even struggled a little bit this weekend, but man, what can I say — the team did an amazing job. The American Legion Honda [was super fast today] and I basically just listened to whatever [the team] told me to do. They said, ‘Be patient here and you’ll get your reward at the end,’ and we definitely did.

“I think that was the first time [I ever] got to pass some cars, so I was excited about that!”
