I tried viral TikTok hack of deboning a rotisserie chicken in a bag, here's why I'll use it regularly

Shredding a rotisserie chicken is a messy task. But TikTok users are swearing by a hack that makes the whole process a lot bearable, so I tried it too.

You shouldn’t believe everything you see on TikTok. Of course, some hacks, such as the 5-5-5- method for perfectly hard-boiled eggs and the DIY nail polish remover with common household items were impressive. But most of them are created to dupe you.

I tried deboning a rotisserie chicken in a bag

Deboning a rotisserie chicken may not be as appetizing to all. Also, separating the bones from a whole chicken is time-consuming.

To avoid the mess and time TikTok users have turned to an easy method, which involves the steps below.

  • Find a zip lock bag that’s big enough to fit a full rotisserie chicken.
  • Place the chicken inside the bag and lock it.
  • Massage the chicken by pinching and rolling it over inside the bag. You may want to apply more pressure around the bones to separate the meat.
  • Do the above for a few minutes until most of the meat and bone separate.
  • Open the zip lock bag and pour its contents into a bowl.
  • Remove all the bones and use a fork to separate leftover meat.
  • A bowl full of shredded chicken is ready to serve.

I wasn’t disappointed with the outcome of the hack. Did it save me time? Yes. Did I have to get my hands dirty? Not at all.

I went one step ahead and used the same zip lock bag I used for the hack to store the shredded chicken as I couldn’t use all of it at once.

Mistakes to avoid

Of course, the hack is handy. But it works best when you do it on a rotisserie chicken that’s still warm. Several TikTok users have noted that it wouldn’t work well on a chicken that’s gone cold.

Another common mistake people tend to make is to massage the chicken too hard from over the bag, thus tearing it. Make sure you don’t use your nails or apply too much pressure.

One-size zip lock bag doesn’t work for all rotisserie chickens. Always go for a bigger bag that can hold the entire chicken and still has enough space inside for the meat to move around when it’s shredded.
