Joint Stock Company Latvenergo has transferred a package of equipment to Ukraine for the restoration of the energy infrastructure, according to Delfi.

The aid package includes a high-voltage transformer TS-250000/330 with a capacity of 250 MVA, which was previously used at the Riga HPP, a compressed air compressor GR110, and 60 tons of transformer oil.

The Latvian State Fire and Rescue Service helped with the delivery of the oversized cargo to the destination. Transportation costs were covered by the European Union.

"With the supply of a high-voltage transformer, oil, and a compressor, residents of Ukraine will be provided with assistance at the household level, as well as for water supply and heating of hospitals, schools, and other facilities. Let's stay united until Ukraine wins," said Arnis Kurgs, Administrative Director of AS Latvenergo.

Russian attacks on thermal power plants

Russian forces have been targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the early months of the full-scale invasion. However, in the spring of 2024, the enemy emphasized disabling large thermal power plants (TPPs). For example, on March 22, blocks of the Burshtyn and Ladyzhynska TPPs were damaged by strikes.

Additionally, on March 29, during another shelling, three thermal power plants in Ukraine were attacked simultaneously. In particular, an energy worker was damaged.

Two weeks later, on April 11, during a massive attack on Ukraine, the Trypillia TPP in the Kyiv region was completely destroyed. This plant supplied electricity to three regions - Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr.
