American Idol judge Katy Perry, 39, announced this year how she thinks her time on the show is coming to an end. Now, former Idol winner and accomplished music artist Fantasia, 39, thinks she can fill the California Girls singer’s shoes. But, fans have all kinds of ideas for Katy’s “replacement.”
Since American Idol season 16, Katy Perry has been on the judging panel alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Who better to guide budding musical maestros through the process than the award-winning songstress than Katy? But, now that she’s leaving, someone new is surely set to take the Dark Horse singer’s place.
Could Fantasia replace Katy Perry?
Back in February, Katy revealed this season of American Idol would “probably be her last.”
She explained to Jimmy Kimmel: “I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but i feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you know what I’m saying, Jimmy?”
A few months down the line showstopping singer Fantasia is being asked if she’d consider being on the judging panel.
Looking like a “vision” at the Time 100 Gala, 20 years on from winning American Idol, Fantasia said how she’s realized many dreams she’s had in her life.
Speaking exclusively to ET this April, Fantasia said: “I’m going to be honest. I would love to. I think that those kids when they’re coming into the game, I think that they need somebody to come in and not only show them how to sing a song but how to handle the business because it’s a lot.
“So, just having somebody to say make sure you have this, make sure you have that. Getting to know them, their upbringing… I would love to do it.”
Fans have other ideas
Since Fantasia was asked whether she’d consider “replacing” Katy on Idol, fans are taking to a Reddit thread in full force to share their thoughts.
Many fans of the singer are keen to see her take the role, writing: “Fantasia would be amazing to see as a judge. One of my favorite winners & the best finale performance ever. She has had so many incredible post-Idol moments.”
However, some aren’t sure she’s the “right fit.”
More are calling for a return of Paula Abdul to the panel. Many were in agreement with the idea, commenting: “YES PLEASE. I actually think it would be fun to do a special season with all three original judges + Ryan and then maybe do a clean slate after that.”
Meghan Trainor also made it into fans’ comments as a judge they’d like to see on the show but many are convinced Fantasia has an edge due to the fact she’s won the whole show herself before.
