'We were lucky': Pep Guardiola shares why he thinks Nottingham Forest missed so many chances yesterday

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been explaining why he thinks Nottingham Forest missed so many chances yesterday.

The Reds slipped to a 2-0 defeat against the Citizens at the City Ground – but the team put up a real fight.

Forest missed three gilt-edged chances to score in the game, with Paul Merson criticising Chris Wood.

The leading scorer did fluff his lines yesterday and ultimately, he will hope to shake these errors off ahead of next weekend.

Guardiola has some sympathy for Wood, however, and he has delivered the bizarre reason why he thinks the striker missed the chances he did yesterday.

In fairness, this hasn’t happened all too often this season – with Forest finding the way to goal under Espirito Santo.

However, it was a bad day in front of the goal yesterday – with Wood missing a number of chances to get among the goals again.

Still, he does have some credit in the bank this season and hopefully, he can add to his tally before the season is out.

Guardiola has tried to clear up why he thought Forest missed so many chances – with the City Ground surface in the firing line.

He told BBC Sport: “In certain moments we suffered. We were lucky today the pitch was so dry, because the chances they missed, that was the reason why. We got lucky that the pitch was in these conditions.”

Forest can still save their season with late flurry

The Reds desperately have to beat Sheffield United next Saturday but that won’t be easy.

They were officially relegated on Saturday and ultimately, that can sometimes give teams a more relaxed nature.

Forest have to go their with all guns blazing though and hopefully, the team can find a way to claim a big three points.

Wood isn’t on his own when it comes to missing chances yesterday and other players need to sort their game out too.

Guardiola was seemingly unsure about the pitch yesterday but given that it rained all morning, it’s a mystery why it was so dry.

Forest have just three games of the season remaining now and hopefully, enough points can be secured to survive relegation.
