Why Moises Caicedo is available for Chelsea to face Tottenham despite picking up 10 yellow cards this season

Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at the weekend was arguably the first showing of one of their key players showing exactly why the club spent so much on him.

Moises Caicedo was absolutely imperious, particularly in the second half for the Blues, as they fought back to rescue a point from what looked like a losing position.

The Ecuador international won 12 of his 14 deals, and stepped up to perform in the absence of Enzo Fernandez in the midfield.

Recovering the ball 11 times as well, the partnership of him and Conor Gallagher in the middle of the park continued to show that they can work well together for the rest of the campaign.

The 22-year-old was booked in the second half following an altercation with Douglas Luiz, making it 10 for the season as far as yellow cards go.

This has led many to believe that he would now need to serve a two-game suspension, as per rules set by the Premier League.

However, as per the laws of the league, a player must pick up the 10 cautions in the first 32 games of the season in order to serve the suspension, with the Blues now playing 33 so far.

Caicedo being available for the next game is absolutely crucial for Mauricio Pochettino, with them coming up against arch-rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues still have hope for qualifying for Europe next season, however need to be pretty perfect for the rest of the season.

Injuries have got to the point where they were only able to name one senior player on the bench in the form of Axel Disasi against Villa, meaning the boss is relying a lot on those who are currently available to do the business at this crucial stage of the season.
