'Please': Don Hutchison has seen something Newcastle fans do which he wants Everton supporters to copy

Everton fans have always stood by their football club, but this season it has arguably been harder than ever to do so.

After all, their campaign has not been dominated by poor performances, of which there have still been plenty, but instead financial drama.

PSR has truly emerged as one of the outstanding villains of the Premier League year, and has severely damaged the division’s reputation.

But one thing it could not damage is the Toffees’ top-flight status, which remains intact due to the spirit of Sean Dyche, the players and, most importantly, the fans.

However, Don Hutchison has still called on the latter to do a little bit more.

Don Hutchison sends plea to Everton fans

Across the last few years, when the players have needed them most, Evertonians have emerged to propel their team to safety.

Whether it be welcoming the home side in a cloud of blue smoke, or taking the atmosphere from the local pub into the ground, they have tried everything.

And, at the forefront of this supporting renaissance is the fan group The 1878s, who deserve so much credit for recapturing that spark at Goodison Park.

Their efforts in creating spectacular displays at the Gwladys Street end have been mesmeric of late, ironically funded by the tens of thousands of pounds raised after Everton were first deducted ten points by the Premier League.

In an effort to drive the Toffees into the Championship, it has arguably lit a flame under them and their supporters on two occasions now.

But Hutchison, who captained Everton back during the 1999/2000 season, thinks that they could still take a page out of Newcastle United’s book, as he wrote on X: ‘Can I just say. @worflags do this for every Newcastle United home game. Please can the Everton fans do the same. Honestly it makes such a massive difference to the players.

‘Well played boys. UTFT’.

Goodison Park once again roars Everton to safety

Despite Hutchison’s plea, Everton fans simply cannot be faulted for their efforts in recent years.

And, over the last month, they have put in a particularly remarkable effort to push the team to renewed success at Goodison Park.

The club’s home form had been somewhat patchy all campaign, for whatever reason, as they consistently struggled to put teams to the sword despite dominating. Before these four wins on the spin, they had won just three at home all season.

However, first scraping through against Burnley, they have since gone on to enjoy relatively straightforward results over Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Brentford to attain survival.

It is nothing more than this fanbase deserves, and hopefully their hard work alongside all the turmoil they have suffered through will be rewarded with something of note in the coming years.
