What Chelsea are going to do on the final day of the season to honour Thiago Silva’s final game – journalist

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now shared what the plan is at Chelsea to honour Thiago Silva before he leaves the club.

He took to Twitter to state that the Blues have something in store for the last game of the season against Bournemouth at home.

Silva announced today via the club website that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, with his contract expiring this summer.

Thiago Silva to leave Chelsea

The silence did offer some hope amongst some that they would offer an extension for the player who turns 40 early next season, although this has now been quashed.

Silva has been starting in recent games due to injury issues through the defensive line, with him recently starting against Aston Villa in the 2-2 draw.

Jacobs has now shared that the club could well have something special in store for the Brazil international when the final game comes around.

Thiago Silva to be captain for final Chelsea game

He said: “Chelsea defender Thiago Silva will leave the club at the end of the season. Siva expected to be made captain for the Bournemouth game for his farewell.”

It actually remains to be seen whether Silva will even be fit for that game, after being forced off with an injury last time out against Villa.

His reported groin injury has left him sweating on results of a scan, with it being an issue that has plagued him this season already.

Many will have been wondering why the most experienced player in the squad by some distance was not picked to be captain from the start of this season.

Reece James was named the skipper, however the England international has endured another injury-hit campaign, leaving him hardly able to feature.

With vice-captain Ben Chilwell also unavailable for large portions of the season, the responsibility has normally fell to Conor Gallagher, whose future at the club remains unclear.
