Report: Major update emerges on Leicester City's transfer embargo

A major update on Leicester City’s transfer embargo has just emerged.

Leicester were placed under a player registration embargo by the EFL last month which caused great concern about the summer transfer window.

The club released a statement in response, which read: “The Club further notes that at 4pm today the EFL issued a public notification that LCFC has been placed under a registration embargo pursuant to its P&S rules.

“The EFL is aware that LCFC has disputed the EFL’s entitlement to impose this constraint, which is both restrictive and premature, with more than a quarter of the Club’s 2023/24 reporting period remaining.”

Now, a new development in the case has just come to light.

The Daily Mail ran a report on Monday afternoon which confirmed that Leicester will be free to sign players this summer transfer window.

The publication noted that the Premier League have no plans to extend the embargo following The Foxes’ return to the top flight.

City officially become members of the division on June 6, when an Annual General meeting takes place.

That will essentially trigger the end of their constraints to the EFL’s rulings, meaning the player registration will be lifted.

The summer transfer window is set to reopen later that month, so the timing will not affect the club’s planned business in the market.

A big relief for Enzo Maresca

The news will come as a huge relief to City boss Enzo Maresca and his recruitment staff, as they can now freely plan for life back in the Premier League.

Work can begin identifying and starting negotiations with transfer targets ahead of the window’s opening in June.

It will also provide the players who are out of contract more assurance, as they know indefinitely, that they’ll be able to pledge their long-term future to the club this summer if indeed a contract is agreed upon.

So following the promotion party this weekend, more good news has dropped and City can make it even sweeter this evening, as they face Preston North End at Deepdale needing two points to win the title.

A big night awaits the city of Leicester.
