‘Discussed internally’: Chelsea now interested in signing ‘unplayable’ Manchester City attacker – journalist

Journalist Simon Phillips has now claimed that Chelsea are interested in the prospect of signing one player from fellow Premier League side Manchester City.

He said on his Substack page that the Blues have internally spoken about the prospect of one player they believe could be available for a transfer this summer.

Chelsea have done plenty of business in recent seasons with Manchester City, bringing in Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling from the Etihad.

Mateo Kovacic also went the other way last summer, suggesting that they are more than open to doing business for players who have been key first team stars.

One player who has now been mentioned as a reported potential player Chelsea are interested in is Jack Grealish, who has at times remained on the fringes of a place in the Starting XI in Manchester.

This does not take away from his quality though. Rio Ferdinand described the winger as ‘almost unplayable’ last year.

Chelsea discuss signing Jack Grealish

Phillips has now stated that the Blues have already actually discussed the prospect of bringing in the England international this summer.

He said: “And another winger I am told has been internally discussed at Chelsea recently, is Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

“The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to his former club Aston Villa in recent weeks, and due to his bit-part role at City, there is a belief in the industry that he will be available for transfer this summer and also, he is likely to be open to moving to another club where he will have a more important role at.

“Chelsea have good transfer relations with City and of course, have signed Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer from them in recent years, both at reasonable fees.”

The wide positions at Chelsea certainly look as if they could do with strengthening, and bringing in experience would never be a bad thing to do with a squad as young as theirs.

Mykhailo Mudryk is still very much learning the ropes as a player at a top club, and signing a player who he can learn a great deal off such as Grealish could be great for his development.

Sterling is reportedly one of the players the club are looking to offload over the summer, with Saudi Arabia a destination that has shown interest in bringing him in recently.
